Terri’s Passing

I am sad to know that my country murdered an innocent, defenseless woman today.

Once again, I am amazed at the timing of things. For today's helpful Bible study practice after prayer and careful reading of the Bible passage, the next step is to reflect on what you have read. Wait in an attitude of openness, ready to obey God's Word to you. First, think through the passage. Then, ask yourself such questions as I present in each day's study.

Bible Study, Ezra 2:1-70
What is the main point? God returns the Children of Israel to their land and to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and the nation. It is important to note verse 62. The Jewish people kept track of their ancestry. Some wrongfully or ignorantly accuse my people of being clannish (if we were Scottish, no one would object). The truth of the matter is that God charged the Children of Israel to be the keepers of His Word that declares His promise of the soon coming Messiah, and that He would come forth from the Jewish people. So, we are careful not to ensure a snobbish pedigree, but to be obedient to God participating in His purpose to fulfill His promise. We will protect His Word with our lives.
What does God reveal about Himself? He keeps His promise. He warned Israel that if they disobeyed Him that they would be destroyed. God used King Nebuchadnezzar to accomplish this. God promised to return the people to the land and He used King Cyrus to send them back.
What insights into my life? Terri Schiavo passed away today. We may never know the truth and we may never understand why God allowed the hard hearts to kill her. But, we must trust that He knows what happened, that He knows the truth and that He will execute righteous judgment at His appointed time. I believe that our nation has forgotten God. We have been blessed more than any nation. Are we better than Israel? If God did not spare His chosen vessel, what makes us think He will allow us to continue to mock His grace. I think our nation has progressed down a path of self destruction that is not recoverable.
How can I honor God with this information? I wonder if it is time to warn people of His coming judgment?
Where is God working today? I am praying for the family of Terri Schiavo. I cannot imagine the deep, painful grief they face. Only the Holy Spirit can comfort them in their sorrow. I hope that we don't soon forget Terri, and the important issue that she presented to us for national debate. America has learned to embrace the "right" to die. Have we traded away the Right to Life?

Time to Rebuild

As I progress through the Bible, I will study both testaments. I finished the Gospel of Luke yesterday. Today, I begin the book of Ezra. It covers Israel’s history from approximately 538 through 424 B.C. It discusses Israel’s second Exodus from captivity, and demonstrates God’s faithfulness to redeem His people.

The helpful study practice for today is this: after you pray and ask Jesus to teach you what He wants you to learn (see yesterday’s Future and Hope Blog), then read carefully the Bible passage for the day. If necessary, refer to the preceding and following sections as necessary, so that you read the passage in its full context.

Bible Study, Ezra 1:1-11
What is the main point? God fulfills His promise to the captive children of Israel. The promise is proclaimed by Jeramiah and Daniel. God abundently supplies His people with what they will need to re-build the temple in Jerusalem.
What does God reveal about Himself? He demonstrates His ability to work through anyone, including a heathen King.
What insights into my life? God stirred the spirit of the King (verse 1) and the hearts of the people (verse 5) to accomplish His will. Because Terri Schiavo clings to life, I still have hope that God may yet perform a miracle to stir the hearts of our nation’s leaders to save and rebuild her life.
How can I honor God with this information? I want to always remember to wait on the Lord to stir me to action. How can I know if it is Him and not my own ambition? First by choosing to wait. Second, I must choose to trust Him and respect His ability to communicate with me. Finally, I must listen carefully for He uses a variety of communication tools (friends, family, co-workers, my pastor, and His written Word, just to name a few).
Where is God working today? I am praying that our legal system will extend mercy to Terri Schiavo, something that they could choose to do and let her live (See Blogs for Terri). I trust that God knows exactly what He is doing and that He will accomplish His purpose.

Resurrection Lessons

Tuesday 3/29/2005:
Bible Study, Luke 24:36-53:
What is the main point?
Jesus assures us of His resurrection. He proves that He is alive and that it is not just wishful thinking.
What does God reveal about Himself? He fulfills His word, and He continues to teach His followers with great patience (see verse 39 through 43).
What insights into my life? Verse 41 describes the great joy the disciples had being in Jesus' living presence. When we enter His presence today in prayer, worship, or fellowship, He brings us His joy. Then, He opens our minds to understand His Word (verse 45).
How can I honor God with this information? Today, I planned to write about helpful Bible Study practices. I can't think of a better one than taking a few minutes to pray and ask Jesus to open our minds to understand His Word relying on the promise of verse 45. When you pray, ask God to help you understand and receive His Word. Through Christ, you are in the Father's holy presence. Approach Him humbly, boldly, and expectantly.
Where is God working today? I continue to ask God for a miracle to let Terri Schiavo live. We commit her into God's hands trusting that He will answer our cry according to His great mercy.

Jesus is The Teacher!

Good Monday Morning! Thank God it’s Monday. Our very best friends of more than twenty years, Jim & Joyce, were blessed with their first grandchild Easter Sunday. I am so grateful to our Lord, the author of all life, for granting new life at this time when so much of our nation’s attention is preoccupied with the tyrannical court ordered murder of Terri Schiavo as she hangs on to her life (See Blogs for Terri). I know many believe that her “husband” is the suffering saint in this drama, but starving a loved one to death just doesn’t make sense.

Starting tomorrow, I will provide Bible Study tips that readers might find helpful.

Bible Study, Luke 24:13-35:
What is the main point? This is one of my favorite passages. The two men received a wonderful teaching from The Teacher. Jesus chose the moment when and the method how He revealed Himself to them. I appreciate the way He engaged their thinking by asking them questions. He balances their faith with understanding.
What does God reveal about Himself? He chooses to whom, when, and how He reveals Himself to people. He used scripture to lay the foundation, encouraged them to participate with Him, then granted them understanding.
What insights into my life? I can trust that He will teach me what I need to know, when I need to know it. Even as I continue to ask Him for understanding regarding the Terri Schiavo case, I am confident that He will grant me understanding at the appointed time, if it is His will for me to have the revelation knowledge.
How can I honor God with this information? Trusting God is a way of showing Him respect. So, I will wait for Him to open my eyes when He chooses.
Where is God working today? He may have someone cross my path today and it is possible that He will use both of us to teach each other. This entire study reminds me of a very simple truth: If you tell me something, I will forget it. If you write it down, I might remember. If you get me involved, then, I will understand!

He is Risen!

Good Easter Sunday Morning! Terri Schiavo is hanging on to life (See Blogs for Terri). Her family knows that they’ve done all that they can within the law. They can stand before Jesus (with Terri by His side) and know with confidence that this is true. I want to remember these events as the key epoch when the United States of America lost her glory and destroyed herself from within by immorality, not by any foreign power’s conquest.

March 27, 2005:
Bible Study: Psalm 49:1-20
What is the main point?
A resurrection prophesy is hidden in this passage. Verses 4, 9, and 15 connected together proclaim Messiah’s work in a few sentences. I am confident that the original writer did not realize within his laments of facing death that he also proclaimed what would happen one Sunday morning outside of Jerusalem. These few verses declare the One anointed by God to rise from the dead, save us, and grant all those who believe in Him eternal life.
What does God reveal about Himself? He shows that Messiah must be more than mere man because redemption is too costly for any man. However, Messiah must be a man to perish and rise again.
What insights into my life? I must remember that no man, wise or foolish, rich or poor, stately or humble, will enter the Kingdom of God except through Jesus. Jesus is the resurrection and the life!
How do I honor God with this information? This Easter Sunday Morning it is important to remember that Jesus’ resurrection is the separating fact from all other belief systems. Jesus is the One and only true Creator of the Universe. Even as I breath His air today, I want to exhale praise and adoration to Him who died and rose again to save my sinful life, even from myself.
Where is God working today? Millions of people that never attend church will do so today. I pray that they hear a message that causes them to think about their personal desperate need for Jesus to be their Savior.

His Promises!

Good morning! Terri Schiavo is still alive today. Our black-robed tyrants seem to forget that they could exercise mercy and still follow the “rule-of-law.” A question remains unanswered, what harm is caused by letting Terri live (See Blogs for Terri)? These unaccountable despots demand that we show mercy (as we should) to Islamic terrorists who live to murder every American, Christian, and Jewish man, woman, and child wherever they find them, but we are ordered to show no mercy to a woman who can harm no one. I do think we need to consider seriously where this court sanctioned murder of an invalid will lead. Have we taken upon ourselves to once again define what is or is not human? Are we no better than Nazi Germany that legally killed anyone that didn’t measure up to their “Master Race” standards? If America continues to follow this path, where will it lead and who is executed next? Why not decree a people group, Christians for example, as mentally ill and in a form of a persistent vegetative state (PVS) and have them removed (see John 16:1-2)? Well, even if this happens, for those who believe that Jesus is who He says He is we have His promise of His coming Kingdom!

Book Review: I finished Hugh Hewitt’s book, “Blog” published by Nelson Books. It was inspiring, but my favorite Hugh Hewitt book is still “The Embarrassed Believer” published by Word Publishing. If not for Mr. Hewitt, I wouldn’t be writing now. "Blog" was just the encouragement I needed. I found the words that pushed me forward on page 142, as Mr. Hewitt asks the reader a series of pointed questions. It would be enough for me if someday any of my children read my opinions. Whether or not they ever appreciate them is between them and Almighty God!

March 26, 2005:
Bible Study: Luke 24:1-12
What is the main point? This passage teaches the simple truth that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day. There is no historical record refuting the evidence. We have greater assurance of Jesus’ resurrection than we have that George Washington was the first President of the United States of America, or that Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. There are more recorded eye witnesses to the fact that Jesus is alive then there are witnesses to Terri Schiavo’s will regarding her desire to live or die. Isn’t it amazing how people will not examine the evidence? I guess an old saying is true that there are none so blind as those who will not see.
What does God reveal about Himself? His word is true, He can be trusted, and He fulfills His promises. We can rest assured that He will come again to take His Bride home. For those who are not ready, they will be surprised.
What insights into my life? I am ready now. Jesus could come back today. Whenever the rapture takes place (see I Corinthians 15:51-58, & I Thessalonians 4:13-18), I want to be able to say to those Left Behind, “Have a nice day!” Frankly, you are going to need it, because when Jesus removes His Church, He will leave no restraint of evil behind (consider II Thessalonians 2). I’ve tried to imagine what this world would be like with no restraint of evil, but it is too frightening when I consider how terrible things have already become. I am grateful that Jesus taught us that when we see these things happening, look up for His return is very soon (Matthew 24:33).
How do I honor God with this information? When I talk to anyone about the Terri Schiavo case, I want to stress the fact that this doesn’t take God by surprise. He is keeping perfect records of all the proceedings and He will judge rightly when each player in this drama stands before Him. I am confident that He will receive Terri because He is the only righteous and merciful judge, who perfectly balances the “rule-of-His-law” with His grace and mercy.
Where is God working today? I pray that God’s Holy Spirit will move across this nation and turn the hearts of many, especially Michael Schiavo, away from the rabid hatred against God and His truth, and embrace His value for all life.

Scotland 03-14-05 Posted by Hello

Good Friday – Can we enter into His rest?

Good morning! Today is Good Friday. I am thankful that Jesus paid the full price for may sin. I thought that it must have been His desire for me to start writing my daily Bible Study Journal this Holy Week, and to reflect upon the parallels between His work and the work He is doing with all of us regarding Terri Schiavo’s case (See Blogs for Terri). I am grateful that people are taking sides because this is a very important issue. I hear people constantly projecting their opinion as to what Terri would want if they were in the same condition. They have forgotten that God is not indifferent to this situation and that He has a will regarding life. Rarely do I hear people voicing the words of Jesus, “Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Thine be done.” (Luke 22:42, NAS, emphasis mine)

March 25, 2005:
Bible Study: Luke 23:44-56

What is the main point? Jesus completes His mission and enters into rest. His mission was to make the way for God and man to be reconciled into a permanent relationship. Jesus paid the full penalty for my sin and all of mankind’s including those who have authorized the legal murder of Terri Schiavo. Therefore, the veil that separated man from God was torn apart. Jesus opened the door. Will we go into His Father’s house, a house full of compassion and mercy?
What does God reveal about Himself? He shows how desperately He wants to have a relationship with His children and to what lengths He will go to accomplish His will.
What insights into my life? As my personal relationship with Jesus matures and as I age naturally, God reveals more of His desire to have a close relationship with all of His children. I hope I don’t act like a foolish child and tell Him to stay out of my life, like so many children tell their natural parents. God is my life and all of life is about Him.
How do I honor God with this information? I pray that on this Good Friday, Terri Schiavo enters into God’s house and into the joy of His eternal rest.
Where is God working today? Father, teach me what You want me to know. Help me see Your hand in the passing of Terri Schiavo and cause Your children to think about that day when they must come before You, face-to-face. I am dependent on You. There is no other place I’d rather be than to walk by Your side, stand in Your presence, kneel at Your throne, or sit at Your feet.

Has Mercy died in America?

Good morning! Seventy years after Jesus was executed and rose again, Jerusalem and Israel were completely destroyed by Rome. I believe America was given this last opportunity to repent of its bloodthirsty obsession of killing innocent human life and extend mercy to Terri Schiavo. America appears to be failing this test. I believe it is now possible that America will now experience the full wrath of God’s judgment for the death of over 40 million murdered babies and the probable second legalized holocaust against the infirm starting with Terri (See Blogs for Terri)

I strongly recommend that you take the time to read Doctor William Polk Cheshire’s sworn Affidavit.

March 24, 2005:
Bible Study: Luke 23:33-43
What is the main point?
This is one of my favorite passages because it demonstrates that it is by faith, not by works, that we are saved. I wonder what work warranted salvation for the thief and murderer that hung next to Jesus. The only work I can see is that he recognized Jesus as his personal king. Thank God that He’s made it so simple. It gives me hope for Terri for her soon coming eternal condition. What work can she perform as she is being starved to death as America follows the “rule-of-law” and shows her no mercy.
What does God reveal about Himself? He shows Himself as the only true Judge who decides who enters the joy of His kingdom. Apparently, belief in my heart and confession with my mouth that “Jesus is LORD,” is all that is necessary (Romans 10:9).
What insights into my life? Today, I am angered by the lack of mercy that is being shown to Terri Schiavo. The parallels between The Passion Of The Christ, and Terri’s suffering are interesting at least, prophetic at best. The chief leaders of Jesus’ day put Him to death. The chief justices of America’s “judicial system,” are putting Terri to death. Barabbas, an insurrectionist and murderer, was released. Two murderers were granted stays of execution last night. I wonder if God will leave America to do what is right in its own eyes, just as he left Israel 2000 years ago. 70 year later, Israel was gone.
How do I honor God with this information? I pray I can live the words of Jesus today, “Father for give them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” (verse 34)
Where is God working today? I keep praying for a miracle; however, I believe Terri will pass and soon be with Jesus in Paradise.

Liberty & Justice - Not for Terri Schiavo

March 23, 2005:

Good morning! It’s only a matter of time. I wonder if there is anyone with courage enough to rescue Terri. I wonder where America is heading. I wonder if we are starving from moral compassion for human life?

Bible Study: Luke 23:26-32
What is the main point? In this passage Jesus gives one of His last prophecies. He knows He is about to die, so His words must be important. I think the “green tree” represents that moment in time when the presence of God was physically present with man. I wonder what evil man will do when God no longer restrains evil. I wonder if that foretold time is now.
What does God reveal about Himself? Jesus absorbs all the evil man musters. Even though it causes Him pain that would kill any normal human being, He endures and takes more. Even as He lets himself be abused, He extends His grace and mercy. I am grateful that He paid the price for my sin, because I would not have lasted five minutes under that extreme torture.
What insights into my life? Today, I learned that the Federal Appeals court ruled against Terri Schiavo’s parents. I don’t believe there is enough time for an appeal to the United States Supreme Court. I join with those who morn and lament Terri’s passing. Even in this, I am thankful that God will judge her case with His perfect wisdom, understanding, loving kindness, and righteousness.
How do I honor God with this information? I will submit to the rule of law and trust God that He knows what is best.
Where is God working today? Because I don’t understand, I pray that God will grant me understanding in His way, and timing. I pray that I can be useful for His purpose today, and not dwell on what might have been.

March 22, 2005

Good morning! This morning I woke to find that our justice system let Terri Schiavo down. I am disgusted but not surprised at the evil of man, done in the name of law-and-order. I can’t believe Judge Wittemore danced around the issue (see Hugh Hewitt.com). We live in a time when the United States of America can pick up where Nazi Germany left off. I spoke with a man bound in a wheel chair. He said, “If they let Terri die, I fear I’m next.” I wonder if his fears are justified.

Today's Bible Study: Luke 23:13-25

What is the main point? The nature of man sides with rebellion and killing (the people chose Barabbas – an insurrectionist and murder instead of their Savior, Jesus). I see a clear comparison between the unregenerate heart of man and the purity of God. Mankind left to our will takes pleasure in killing innocent life. I can hear (figuratively) the cheers of our enlightened liberal angels of death that think they are doing the right thing letting Terri Schiavo be cruelly tortured to death.
What does God reveal about Himself? He lets evil have its own way so that His word is fulfilled. Without the death of Jesus, no one would ever come to know the One and only true living God.
What insights into my life? Jesus was declared innocent and was crucified for my sin. I pray that I would not be one of today’s crowd that cries, “Let Terri die!” One of my historical heroes, Abraham Lincoln was murdered on Good Friday 140 yeas ago. Now, Terri could pass away on Good Friday. I wonder if this is God's plan?
How do I honor God with this information? It may be too late, but I think it is time to fast as well as pray for Terri Schiavo. I hope my anger at this whole matter doesn’t cause me to stumble and forget to trust God.
Where is God working today? I became further aware that a great number of people do not know the key facts of this case. I recommend that you read today’s Citizen Link.

March 21, 2005:

Missions Statement: I am the hand of a Ready Writer (Psalm 45:1) for the Lord. I will document His love for His people (Galatians 5:1), and proclaim the soon coming marriage supper of the Lamb of God (Revelation 19:7). Postings will be based on my daily Bible study and will follow a consistent format. My hope is to encourage my readers to further personal study. I am a "Jack-of-all-trades and a "master of none," so I intend to write on a variety of subjects that surface from my daily Bible study. I intend for these postings to be short, informative, accurate, and entertaining, with links to subject-matter experts. It is time for His Bride to prepare herself for her Groom.

Good Evening! This is a somber day. After coming home from a long hard day at work, I learned that justice for Terri Schiavo creeps slowly. We need to keep praying for Terri, and for the Federal Judge that seems to be sitting on her case. I also learned that another student shooting took place in Minnesota. I am very thankful that none of these matters surprise God.

Bible Study: Luke 23:8-12
What is the main point? Jesus is brought before King Herod. He wants Jesus to perform a sign; any miracle will do so that Herod would believe. Jesus warned that it is the wicked who seek after signs and wonders. Because Jesus says nothing, Herod sends Him back to Pilate. I found it very interesting that Herod and Pilate, once former enemies, became friends that day. Those that are friends of the world are enemies of God (See James 4:4).
What does God reveal about Himself? He is able to take all the contempt the world throws in His face and respond with grace and mercy rather than retaliate with His justifiable wrath. It was judgment enough that Jesus chose to be quiet when the wicked demanded a reply from Him. Then, Jesus left Herod to his own devices.
What insights into my life? I pray that I will exercise patience with my fellow believers and pre-believers when they speak or act out of ignorance rather than understanding. It is too easy to give in to my natural desire to retaliate when wronged, and cut the offender off for the foolishness demonstrated. I pray that I will keep silent rather than strike back.
How do I honor God with this information? I wrote in my journal this morning that when I go to work today a situation may arise that will require patience, mercy, grace and understanding. I hope that I am up to the challenge. Well, not only did I encounter one thing, but several. I can honestly say that if not for God through His Holy Spirit helping me, I think I would have retaliated on more than one occasion. I did yell at my computer when it crashed today (I wanted to smash it). I guess the fact that I’m still employed is a good sign that I didn’t completely fail the Lord today.
Where is God working today? My wife, Mary, just returned last night from Scotland. Mary and her missions team, ten students from Colorado Christian University (CCU) ministered to a sixty plus member youth group. Mary said that the Scots were very impressed with how willing the Americans shared their personal testimonies of what Jesus had done and is doing in their respective lives. I found it interesting that not everyone is so ready, willing, and able to freely share God’s love. Mary received an e-mail message today from one of the Scotland youth leaders thanking Mary and her team for a job well done. I pray that this Gospel connection between our two cultures matures for God’s purposes.

March 20, 2005

Missions Statement: I am the hand of a Ready Writer (Psalm 45:1) for the Lord. I will document His love for His people (Galatians 5:1), and proclaim the soon coming marriage supper of the Lamb of God. Postings will be based on my daily Bible study and will follow a consistent format. My hope is to encourage my readers to further personal study. It is time for His Bride to prepare herself for her Groom.

Good Palm Sunday Morning! As I wrote in yesterday’s posting, I intend to write on a variety of subjects. Today, I want to provide a short book review. I received from Hugh Hewitt (see Hugh Hewitt.com) James Webb’s new book, “Born Fighting, How The Scotts-Irish Shaped America.” Webb explains the history of the Scotts-Irish peoples’ love for personal liberty and concept of responsible government. This same drive is ingrained in at least 50% of the American population. Webb shed light on an issue I did not think possible, but might be common knowledge to others. I never considered that many actually believe that government should control every aspect of our lives. Even American citizens think that a “Top-down” governing authority is better than individuals acting responsibly within their God given liberty. This differing view explains a great division in our country today. I never understood why “Liberals” view taxation as a form of “free-will-offering,” or contribution to society. I view taxation as government “legalized robbery,” to fund necessary programs that probably would not survive without government support. I guess that’s why so many people are hanging on to a dieing Social Security system. I suppose that they trust the government more than themselves to own and be responsible for their retirement future. Read Born Fighting,” it will set you free.

March 20, 2005 (The First Day of Holy Week):
Bible Study: Psalm 48:1-14
What is the main point? This is a song of praise to God for His greatness and for the great city, Jerusalem, He established. In this passage, the writer compares God’s greatness against the collective yet limited weak power of mankind. I believe a rabbinical doctrine comes from this passage too. The thought is this, so long as God’s chosen people and the Holy Mount Zion remain, the people of the Earth will be blessed (see Isaiah 2:3-4, and John 4:22).
What does God reveal about Himself? God is revealed as a protective husband and father, a guardian of the great city and her children.
What insights into my life? One reason I write this daily journal is defined for me in the last two verses. I want to declare His great love for people, that His love is everlasting, and that He will guide each of us according to His purposes. One day He will take us home, either through the end of our individual lives, or on His appointed day of rescue (see I Corinthians 15:51-58, and I Thessalonians 4:13-5:6).
How do I honor God with this information? Because this is a song of praise, I want to remain in an attitude of worship to God, all day. One way to help me do this is to listen to Christian music. I can listen “on-line” at K-LOVE.
Where is God working today? I am reminded to pray that God will touch the hearts and minds of the key players in this Terri Schiavo drama and that He will rescue her at His appointed time. By now, she must be feeling the pain of hunger. I wonder if her “husband” is hungry. I wonder what he has to gain by her death. I also wonder who else gains by her passing. I wonder if there are really American people who want a country that has no place for the infirm. Will you join me in this prayer? Father, please open hearts and minds to Your truth, compassion, and value for each life, including Terri’s. I understand that Congress is finally prepared to intervene. That, in my opinion, is itself an answer to prayer.

March 19, 2005

Good morning! Last night I entered the blogosphere thanks to Hugh Hewitt’s first “Blogfest,” held in Denver, Colorado last night (see Hugh Hewitt.com & 710knus.com). I promised that I would provide my mission’s statement in my next posting. It is based on a Biblical World View and centers on two scriptures, Psalm 45:1, and Galatians 5:1. I am a “Jack-of-all-trades and a “master of none,” so I intend to write on a variety of subjects that surface from my daily Bible study. It is my sincere hope that these postings will be short, informative, accurate, and entertaining, with links to subject-matter experts. My only real claim to success is that Mary has stayed married to me for more than 32 years, and according to her testimony – happily! From this prospective, I write.

Bible Study: Luke 23:1-7
What is the main point? The false trial of Jesus continues. It moves from the religious forum to the civil leader, Pontius Pilate, because the temple leaders do not have authority to execute anyone. They falsely accuse Jesus of teaching people not to pay taxes. This is a lie compared to the Gospel accounts (see Matthew 20:20-21, Mark 12:16-17, and Luke 20:24-26). Pilate wants nothing to do with this matter because he does not want to be responsible for putting an innocent man to death. This has current event implication when I consider Terri Schiavo's case (radioblogger.com).
What does God reveal about Himself? The obvious answer is Jesus’ own answer to Pilate that He is the King of the Jews. I think He is showing us an example to be subject to God Almighty only and that we can trust Him to fulfill His plan and purpose, no matter what the cost in our perception.
What insights into my life? It is easy to say, “I am God’s servant.” But is this true if I rebel against those He’s appointed over my life? For example, how do I respond to my boss at work? Do I obey him, trusting God that He knows my situation better than I?
How do I honor God with this information? I may need to learn deeper reliance upon Jesus and His use of my life. Regarding Terri Schiavo, do I raise a call for civil disobedience against the Pilate of our day, Judge George Greer? Do I throw up my hands and say, “Trust God for the outcome? Maybe He has a higher purpose planned if Terri passes?” Or, do I work within our system of government to write or call congress to intervene?” Do I make a stand and cry, “Don’t let an innocent one die!” I don’t have a clear answer, but I chose to write and call congress (202-225-3121 - the House of Representatives and the Congressional switchboard, also see http://www.family.org/ and view “citizen link”). I added one more action and that is I am praying for God to intervene, for Terri, for her family, for the judge, or governmental leaders, and for Terri’s “husband” (in-name-only – in my opinion). Ultimately, I trust God that He will fulfill His purpose in this matter, no matter what the outcome.
Where is God working today? I pray that God will touch the hearts and minds of the key players in this Terri Schiavo drama and that He will rescue her at His appointed time. Will you join me in this prayer?
