Movie Review – I Can Only Imagine

In 2001, a relatively unknown band by the name of MercyMe released their debut recorded CD, “Almost There,” which included their number 1 hit single, “I Can OnlyImagine.”
(I apologize for any and all pop up ads that appear with inserted YouTube videos).

I confess, I am a Holy Spirit anointing junky (one who loves being in God’s Holy presence when His Spirit shows up to bless His people) No one knows when He will make His presence known. I believe that is one reason why He wants His followers to pay close attention to Him. The first time I heard, “I Can Only Imagine,” the power of God’s Spirit moving through a song to draw people to Himself could not be disputed, even by the hard core, secular left. When Mary and I first saw the trailer for the movie, we recognized Jesus tugging on us to go see it during its opening weekend. We did.

If you love Jesus and enjoy testimony style movies, “I Can Only Imagine,” is a must see. If you are hooked on sensing God’s Holy Spirit’s presence during a movie, you’ll love this story. And if you love the music of MercyMe, you’ll leave the theater singing and worshipping The LORD.

The copyright year for the song, “I Can Only Imagine,” is 1999. It has and continues to minister to millions over the past 19 years. If Jesus returns for His followers soon (as I believe He will), this song may not minister to generations like, “Amazing Grace,” has, but I can safely imagine Jesus saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servants,” to the band, MercyMe.

Thanks for reading and followers of Jesus, please pray for God to heal our land. I believe He can use this movie and powerful song, “I Can Only Imagine,” to do just that.
